VISHNUSAHASRANAMAM PRAYANAM

REASON BEHIND THE PARAYANAM AND OUR GOAL

This 108 crore Vishnu naama parayanam is being done to pray for protection of living beings from hunger and starvation during these difficult times. This 108 crore Vishnu naama parayanam is being done under the auspices of the Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple of Sri Rangam. Why 108 crores? There are 108 Divya Desams and so to correspond with that, we are doing 108 crores parayanam.

Our goal is to chant Vishnu Sahasranamam 10.8 lakh times (1 million times). 10.8 lakh times Vishnu Sahasranamam x 1000 Vishnu naamaas = 108 crore Vishnu naamaas (therefore it is called as 108 crore Vishnu naama parayanam)

We are starting the maha parayanam from January 13, 2022 on the auspicious Vaikunta Ekadasi day, with the maha sankalpam puja done at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Sri Rangam.

STEP 2: UPASANA VIDHI OR PROCEDURE

After you decide on the intensity level of the upasana margam you are going to adopt, please select from the below mentioned levels. You can choose to do as given below one level at a time or start from whichever level you feel comfortable.

  1. LEVEL 1: LAKSHA PARAYANAM – This involves chanting Vishnu Sahasranamam 108 times in a mandalam of 41 days OR LESS under the above mentioned adhama, madhyama or utthama way. That means you have to chant 2 to 3 times DAILY and finish chanting 108 times by the 41st day. You can complete earlier than 41 days. Example: If you chant 3 times daily, you can complete in 36 days
  2. LEVEL 2: SAHASRA PARAYANAM – This involves chanting Vishnu Sahasranamam 1008 times in 108 or 216 days OR LESS under the above mentioned adhama, madhyama or utthama way.
    1. If you do in 108 days, you have to chant around 9 to 10 times daily. That will take you around 2 hours 45 minutes. If you follow the utthama way, it will take you 3 hours and 30 minutes.
    2. If you do in 216 days, you have to chant 5 times daily and that will take you around 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you follow the utthama way, it will take you 2 hours and 15 minutes.
    3. You can split the 5 or 10 times parayanam between morning, afternoon and evening/night OR between morning and evening OR do in one sitting. Try to finish your parayanams by 8:30 pm or 9 pm at the latest.

After you complete the Sahasra parayanam, please continue chanting as many times as you can daily, until we reach 108 crores. You can also do another sahasra parayanam and so on until we reach 108 crores.

GROUP PARAYANAMS

If you have a group of friends, family and relatives, you can do group parayanams also. For group parayanams, please follow the below process –

(i) Create your own WhatsApp group or groups and add in all interested devotees who can chant Vishnu Sahasranamam. Have a target of 5 crores or 10 crores or 20 crores or even 50 crores from your group or groups in 2022 and then calculate the number of group members you will need to achieve that target, assuming that group members may chant anywhere from 1 to 10 or 12 times daily. To chant once, it will take 20 to 25 minutes. Group members can split up their parayanams between morning (can start from 4 am onwards or later), afternoon (finish before 12:30 pm) or evening (can start from 5 pm and finish by 9 pm)

(ii) Tell the group members to mentally dedicate the Vishnu Sahasranama parayanams that they will do from that day onwards toward the 108 crore Vishnu Sahasranama maha parayanam

(iii) As the group owner or leader, please consolidate your group’s weekly parayanam count and update the group count using the Parayanam Count Tracker, so that your group’s parayanam count is registered in our database and it is counted towards the 108 crores. MAKE SURE that your group members are NOT updating their counts in the parayana count tracker and let them know that YOU, as the group owner, will update their parayanam counts in the tracker. All they need to do is inform you in the group once a week as to their weekly parayanam count. Try to update the parayanam count for your group every Friday or Saturday and have your group members provide their parayanam count by then.

(iv) Please let the group members know NOT to post any irrelevant messages or forwards in the group. You can close the group to allow only admins to post messages and open it one of the days in the week like Thursday or Friday to allow all group members to post their weekly parayanam count.
